Awarded:  Army Commendation Medal with “V” Device

Date  action: 3 February 1969

Theater: Republic of Vietnam

Reason: For heroism in connection with military operations against a hostile force: Specialist Four Naso distinguished himself by heroic actions on 3 February 1969, while serving as an RTO with Co C, 2d Battalion, 27th Infantry in the Republic of Vietnam. When a small patrol came under an intense enemy attack, elements of Company C were called upon to perform a reactionary force mission and were air assaulted into the contact area.Upon reaching the beleaguered unit, Company C learned that there were several casualties still in the kill zone. Specialist Naso volunteered to be a member of a small group which was to attempt to recover the wounded. As the element moved forward, they came under intense from the hostile positions. With complete disregard for his own safety, Specialist Naso continually exposed himself to the deadly hail of enemy fire as he stayed close to his commanding officer and kept up communications between the small group and the main unit. His valorous actions contributed immeasurably to the success of the mission and the defeat of the hostile force. Specialist Naso’s personal bravery and devotion to duty are in keeping with the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the 25th Infantry Division and the United States Army.
